What's on T.V.?

It's strange to me. I was thinking about t.v. shows because I wanted to see what was on tonite, and to make sure there was nothing that would conflict with Scrubs and The Office. This got me to thinking. Even though there are reasons to be against the American version of The Office, it's still a funny show, and Steve Carrell has earned my support. But there are a lot of shows that I really like that seem like they may be in risk of getting cancelled. For one, there was this show called The Days that aired over the summer I think or maybe it was last spring already, I don't remember. It was really good, and it was written and shot far more interestingly than most shows on today. But apparently going into it, the network wasn't going to keep it going. Some of my favorite shows right now, Scrubs, Committed, Numbers, and The Office are all smart shows, but they don't seem as mainstream as Lost, or The West Wing, both of which I love. I worry that these shows that are really much better than the rest aren't pushed enough as others. They don't get the respect they deserve. I've only watched The O.C. like twice, and although it does use good music, it seems like the next generation's 90210. I just can't get all that into it. Though that one guy (his real name or character name is Adam I think) kind of reminds me of Zach Braff for some reason. But everywhere you turn, it's O.C., O.C., O.C. Committed blows any romantic comedy out of the water for three reasons...

1. It takes place, quite a bit, in a music store.
2. It's not far funnier than the rest.
3. The main girl, Marni (Jennifer Finnagen) in it is really cute and really endearing.

Don't get me started on Numbers. Dear God I love math. Call me a nerd, but if I could do all that shit that Charlie (David Krumholtz) does, dear Lord, that'd be awesome.

Then I was blown away this Sunday by Grey's Anatomy, which I might like even better than E.R. It's sort of E.R. with less technical stuff and Scrubs with more technical stuff. And I just realized that I really like three different hospital shows, which is strange. It leads me to believe I might like General Hospital, but I probably won't, and shouldn't, give it a chance. But seriously, Grey's Anatomy is so good. It's hard to explain, but you should all watch it. I just hope it's not too smart (comedically) for the mainstream. And it also features really good music (Jem, and another song by someone who I don't know but I have to figure out, both in the first episode).

As far as the mainstream goes, like I said, I really like The West Wing, Lost, and Desperate Housewives, though they're the "smarter" of the mainstream shows. Boston Legal, which runs after Extreme Makeover Home Edition and Desperate Housewives, is really good too, but just on the edge of being too smart for mainstream. That's another one they shouldn't get rid of, if only for the power combination of James Spader and William Shatner. It's like The Practice (it's a spinoff if you didn't know) but funny. Really funny.

But now, to make this post even longer, I was thinking of all of these shows that, somehow, seem to be really popular among a different demographic. These family comedies that can't entertain me for longer than .27 seconds. ABC seems to own a lot of them, My Wife and Kids, George Lopez, According to Jim, Rodney, 8 Simple Rules, and Hope & Faith. I have no desire to see any of these. I am wrong? The unfortunate thing is Less Than Perfect, which is far better than any of these is shown directly after a couple of them, so I usually don't think to watch it. ABC doesn't own all of the horrible family comedies, just a lot of them. CBS and NBC have there offenders too. But I just can't believe that many people actually watch these shows. Sorry if you do, but I've found nothing intriguing with the blips of them I have caught up to now.

So in conclusion,
Watch Scrubs
Watch Committed
Watch The Office
Watch Numbers
Watch Grey's Anatomy
Watch The West Wing
Watch Lost
Watch Desperate Housewives
Watch Boston Legal
Watch Medium if you want, it's pretty good too.

Or any combination of the above. They're all better than any Reality t.v. show.

Goodbye Sky Harbor...

I don't know why I just thought of Goodbye Sky Harbor. But I did. Anyways, it's been a while since I posted. The days just seem to escape me. This weekend I kind of caught up on some stuff around the house, paying bills and cleaning. Thank God it's finally getting warm out. We drove up to Sarah's dad and stepmom's house for Easter. It's a really nice drive if you take the country roads, especially with the windows rolled down. Work is pretty much the same day to day, except that one of the girls in the office is gone all week, so I can feel free to post with no one behind me. Let's see... Sarah's dog, Boo, is coming to stay with us for a week. Her friend Rory has Boo normally, since Sarah couldn't have a dog anywhere she lived for the past few years, but he's going to California for a week and needed a place for Boo to stay. We'll see how it goes. We don't really have a backyard, more like a 10X15 grass patch. That's about it right now. More later hopefully.

So sad to say I must be on my way

So buy me beer and whiskey 'cause I'm going far away
I'd like to think of me returning when I can
To the greatest little boozer and to Sally MacLennane

I love The Pogues. And Irish music. On St. Patrick's Day. Or any other day. It makes me want to never leave a bar.

So today is Sarah and I's one year anniversary. Holy shit. It doesn't seem like a year already. It's so good. We're going to dinner after work at the Water City Grill and then see what else is going on. More later. Back to work.

Achin' for spring like a junky for a fix

Well this weekend turned out a little differently than I had planned. We left for Rockford about 6 Friday night and got bombarded with one hell of a snowstorm. It took us an hour to get to Rosendale (normally about 20 minutes), and passed a huge accident featuring a semi jack-knifed in someone's front yard, about 6 cars in ditches, and one car with the entire front end smashed flat. The 2 1/2 hour drive turned into 4 hours, and so Friday night was pretty much wrecked. Saturday I got fitted for my tux finally and did some other running around with Sarah and my parents. I apologize to Brian, Dub C, and Marcus, all of whom I planned to get together with. However, with Friday night down the shitter, when we had planned to have dinner and play games with my parents, we ended up doing that Saturday night. I wish I could have seen everyone too, but things have been crazy for my parents lately and I couldn't just ditch out on plans. So sorry. We're gonna try to come down around Easter so we'll hopefully see you all then.

Otherwise, pretty uneventful weekend. Like I said, we ran around and did some shopping. Ate some Chipotle. My desktop computer is finally fixed, which is nice cause I've just been using my laptop for the past few months and that gets to be a pain. So we got a cheap computer desk and filing cabinet, to bring up to our place. I got the desk all together yesterday, and my computer set up. Unfortunately, we don't have room to have my drums set up anymore, but even with the silencer pads, I still couldn't really practice because of the vibrations of being on the second floor. Anyways, that's about it. Saw The Wandering Sons last night, then hung out at the Jazz Orgy at Peabody's for a couple hours. Poker tonite. Then bed. Then work tomorrow. Argh.

I also realized that I could completely understand if no one wanted to read my blog. Gorski has the craziest stories of trips and travels, Mike Pape has the most humorous blog, and I have boring stories about work.

Ah well.

Hold on to your shit.

First of all, damn it's cold out. Secondly, I'm coming to Rockford this weekend. Give me a ring.

I'm finally going to get fitted for my tuxedo for Marcus' wedding, so that's good news all around. Also, I'm really excited cause my dad finally got my computer (desktop) working, which will be really nice. I haven't had one in months, and we've had to use my laptop for everything, which was just sitting on the floor so you'd have to re-arrange yourself half a dozen times while working on it. Also, I might pick up (probably will pick up) a computer desk while I'm in town, so we'll be able to get it all set up and shit. I've got a really nice flat panel monitor that I haven't been able to use since I got it, so that will be hot. Also picking up my nice cushy computer chair, so I'm excited.

I've checked out a ton of cd's lately, since I'll have a nice big hard drive to "back-up" the cd's on. Been really into Chris Isaak actually. Work is good. I mean, it's work, but it's not the type of job that I'm just sitting around watching the clock all day, so that's nice. Otherwise, same shit, different day. Sarah and I watched half of the first season of The X-Files this weekend. I love that show. Unfortunately the library doesn't have the rest of the first season, so I'll have to rent that somewhere. Well that'll about do it for me. Take care and give me a call if you're in Rockford this weekend, as I will be.

Damn.

I just spent three minutes sitting here trying to think of a title for my post. Nothing. Oh well.

I fear I've become lame. I haven't been in the mood for reading much lately, so I don't have any cool literary inferences to make. I've become addicted to a few major network shows, which aren't inherintely bad, it's just that most everyone knows about these shows, and I'm not clever enough to write some interesting piece on them. It's just this damn winter. It's sucking the life out of me. I don't know. That's it. That's literally all I can think of with any significance to write here. Maybe I'm just tired in the morning and shouldn't post when I'm tired. Also, I'm listening to Trouble No More by John Mellencamp, which is in no way a bad record, however I am getting a little tired of only listening to stuff that is "work-acceptable" (as determined by me). I don't feel bad listening to Dylan, Waits, Mellencamp, all that stuff at work. It's a little safe. However, sometimes during the day I need Modest Mouse or an old Descendents record to help push through the afternoon. And see now this is turning into a slightly interesting post, but one of the other people that works here, who sits right behind me, just got here, so that means no more posty-posty.

The sun's not yellow it's chicken

I finally started reading Bob Dylan's Chronicles. Just got a few pages in, but one thing that really strikes me is that as you're reading it, it seems like really good narration for a really good movie. It just sounds so natural, but then almost impossibly true. I think I'm really going to dig it. I read "Positively 4th Street" last summer, and that was pretty damn good too.

I really want to find a good biography about Miles Davis afterwards. I had no idea how much of a prick he could be. A genious, but a bastard apparently.

Checked out more CD's yesterday. Highway 61 Revisited, Nashville Skyline, and The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, and Blue Miles by Miles Davis. Those have probably been the two artists I've been listening to the most lately.

Is it Spring yet? Too cold. Too cold.

Now Playing: "Tombstone Blues" from Highway 61 Revisited- Bob Dylan
