triple ratamacue

anyone know what a triple ratamacue is without searching the internet for it?

Anyways, I was thinking about this today. Have you ever noticed that sometimes your not ready for some kinds of music/artists... I was thinking, when I first got Love and Theft shortly after it was released, I didn't really like it that much. I was kinda just getting into Dylan and I just wanted acoustic social conscious folk songs. But now I love it. The same thing goes for Tom Waits. When Brian first showed me some stuff of his, I really didn't like it at all. Now I like all of it. It's just strange. That happens so much with me. Anyone have any similar experiences? Any certain artist/style of music?

I don't know. Before I thought this was really interesting and I could go on and on talking about it. But now I don't know if it's all that interesting. I think I just don't want to blog and IM you all to talk. I wanna talk in person. I'll have to arrange that.

He said his name was Columbus, I just said, "Good luck."

Yo-ho, yo-ho, 's a pirates life for me

I know I should probably post something. But now that I'm getting to it, I can't think of anything worth writing about. Or rather, I could probably write about a few things, but it won't be long until everyone else is here and then I'd have to stop part way through. So I'll post something better later. For now, have a good day kiddos.

The answer man

I got to work at 8. The time thing must be messed up. I'll fix it. Secondly, I don't look like the guy on Project Runway. Thirdly, no I haven't been down to get my tux yet. I know I'm a bastard, soon and very soon.

I don't believe you, you're a liar

Shit. My neck hurts.

Anyways, just here at work, getting ready to start the day. Hopefully goes by pretty fast. Well, not too much new here. Sarah and I went to Appleton Saturday, did some shopping, and saw the guys play at Mongo's. It was honestly one of the best shows I've seen. It was just Cory, Rick, and Dan which was all they needed. A lot of really good new songs that take what "Again From The Beginning" was doing, and compound upon it. Mongo's is really sweet, and if any of you can see them next time they play there, you should. The whole thing was one of those experiences where, if you weren't there, it's hard to explain. But seriously one of the best shows of theirs ever.

Other than that, I've just been working and started doing a website for my dad's insurance agency. Sarah has had hives for the last two days so I had to take her to the doctor yesterday. She's pretty much all better.

I've been listening to a lot of Dylan lately. "Love and Theft" has been in constant rotation at work. I checked out John Wesley Harding and The Basement Tapes with The Band. There's just something so "right" about how those songs are written. The music, the melodies. I really want to get some recent bootlegs too. Like I said, Love and Theft has just been killing me lately. The band is just so tight. I gotta see if Dan has a bootleg from the show we went to. Right now I'm listening to the Bootleg Series no. 4 ("Royal Albert Hall"). The "Judas!" "I don't believe you... you're a liar... Playing fucking loud!" part still cracks me up. Well anyways, time to get working, more later. Sorry if I'm kinda scatter-brained. I'm no morning person.

It's me, or Iggy Pop

Being today is Staff Training Day which I am neither a part of, nor able to stay home for, I figure it is time for a proper post. First of all, let me explain. You see, I work AT the library. But I work FOR the library system. Today is staff training day for the LIBRARY. So I am not a part of it. However, since I have no sick time and no vacation, I have to be here. I probably will have about an hours worth of work to do over the course of the day- plus sitting around for 30-45 minute periods letting a book club, two speakers, and a pizza guy in since the building is locked up. So there for, I'm pacing myself. The nice thing about being here alone is I can listen to music at a normal volume, instead of so quiet that when the air kicks in, I have to pump up the volume. So it's just me and Bob right now.

Which reminds me of a story. First of all, I brought Bob Dylan "Chronicles" to work today, in case I have time to read. Well now go a few weeks back. My parents were up visiting, and I had told them about Staff Training Day and how I'd probably be bored most of the day. I mentioned I was going to bring a book to work, to which they all about shit themselves laughing. I still feel like this was uncalled for. As anyone who has ever visited a library knows, they don't always have what you want. Granted I'm not in the middle of anything and I could probably find something to read, I didn't want to search around all day. I have plenty of books at home that I want to read, so why not bring one. Comments were made about me being a genius. I think they were being sarcastic.

So I'm a loser and I've become obsessed with Project Runway on bravo. It's not the worst show ever, but it's nothing to literally write home about. It is worth writing here about though. If you don't know the show, 12 designers compete to have a fashion show in New York and start their own line. As you can guess, it's sort of like Queer Eye meets Survivor meets Real World. The cat fights just get better and better. So anyways, next week is the finally, and last night was the "let's get everyone together and try to make someone cry" show. It worked to the point of someone walking off. But in her defense, she is an annoying Brit bitch. Well anyways, I guess there's not much to say about it. Just enjoy watching it. I'm not at the blogging level of Mike Pape so I can't go on and on recalling details and sounding educated and humorous, so I'll just stop.

Well it's nearly time to let the book club in, so go in peace. Mannone. Out.

*sidenote: I'm trying to decide if I want to litter my blog posts with links or not. It's sort of fun, sort of not. We'll see, won't we.

*sidenote 2: It Ryan Seacrest would just let everyone that gets voted off punch him in the face, I might not hate him so much. Of course, if Ryan Seacrest was replaced by Andrew W.K. he might let himself get punched in the face from everyone. That would be awesome. "Dog, we're gonna party hard" (Randy Jackson's voice). Fucking pop culture ruining me.

I'm wide awake, it's morning

Yeah, so the new Bright Eyes records. I've heard one. Not the other. I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. It's really what I expected after the last record and the song on that Lost Highway sampler. I know all the emos will probably be like "Why is our emo god singing country music... boo." But fuck the emos if they can't take it. I think it's the most advanced song writing that he's given us yet. There's so many layers, you have to listen to it a few times to hear everything that's going on. Plus, I really like that he sounds like he's doing a lot better. I like that it sounds like he's having a lot of fun with these songs, which is what I got out of a lot of the Lifted... songs. Some of the slower softer songs remind me of more recent Damien Jurado stuff. Kinda eerie folk songs that are really pretty and strange at the same time.

Anyways, that's that. I really need to get the new Loretta Lynn record. I don't know why I haven't yet, besides being unemployed for a long time. That will most likely be my next purchase. I've been checking out a bunch of cd's at the library. Since I started working here I've checked out the Twin Peaks soundtrack (really good), the Baz Luhrmann cd Something For Everyone (not as good), a previously mentinoed Bob Dylan cd (haven't actually listened to it), two Beth Orton cd's Trailer Park and Central Reservations, a Julee Cruise cd (the girl singer with really blonde hair in Twin Peaks), a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album No More Shall We Part, and the soundtrack to Until The End of The World which is a movie that kind of sounds familiar with a really good soundtrack (R.E.M., Julee Cruise, Lou Reed, Neneh Cherry, Elvis Costello, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, k.d. Lang, T-Bone Burnett, Daniel Lanois, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, and U2). The last two I haven't listened to yet either. But that's about it for me. Time for work. More later.

The weekend in review

Highlights of this weekend...

1. Walking downtown to Exclusive Company, buying the one of the new Bright Eyes cds (I really like it, no matter what the cynics say). Going to this sweet store called Soiree which has a lot of sweet furniture and stuff.
2. Seeing the guys play at the Reptile Palace in Oshkosh. Drinking a little. Hanging a little.
3. Grammys. I don't care. I like them. I'm glad Green Day and Wilco both one some stuff... Along with Steve Earle, Norah Jones, and a whole slew of other artists I can really appreciate.

Pretty much the whole weekend was cool.

It's raining, but there ain't a cloud in the sky...

Okay, well it's not raining. But shit. A sunny day can do wonders for anyone. I'm so psyched for spring and summer right now. I've had enough of winter. Bring on the warm weather. I'm even gonna buy shorts this year. Woohoo! Back to work.

Nobody's up 'cept the moon and me

Shit, Tom Waits is awesome. I always get a kick out of listening to him at work. I'll put in something like Small Change and it will start off with Tom Traubert's Blues, and so I'll kinda turn it up a little, cause it's "pretty" and no one's really gonna complain. Then it works it's way to Step Right Up and eventually Pasties and a G-String, and it's just so funny to make everyone listen to that. No complaints yet though. Although one of the girls that works in the office listens to AllSaints, Jon Secada, and a "hot" mix with Soak Up The Sun and some Smash Mouth songs on it, amongst others. Fucking Secada. Whew. So it's 1:30 and everyone is gone for the day. Well not everyone. Just everyone that works around me. I've been working on putting another Board report on the internet all morning, and will continue to do that, along with wasting a little time cause, shit, if I don't do it a little here and there, I'll have to do it all afternoon. Sounds like a three smoke break afternoon. Which doesn't help my efforts to scale back the smoking. Unfortunately, since yesterday afternoon I've only done two of the things on my list (smoke and eat). In my defense, a lot of the things I have to wait to do until I get paid Thursday. Let me tell you what... Having a "payday" is a nice feeling. To know that you'll be able to buy gas and food and pay bills and then maybe have a little left over, it's nice. Nice to not worry where the money is going to come from. It's nice, I'll leave it at that.

In other news

I've learned Dreamweaver like a mother. Easy shit. Learned Quick Books too. Not hard. Not all that hard at least.
I'm working on Valentine's plans. Unfortunately I have a couple of bills that are past due so I won't be able to splurge. Dinner and a gift probably will be it. Might go to a movie too, we'll see.
Two weekends ago I went with Sarah to her friend Rory's birthday party. I ended up jamming most of the night with some guys. Two of them were pretty good. Just average mess around stuff, but I'm probably gonna get together and play with them again. It's nice to be playing music again and enjoying it. One of the guys I played with is this big dude that plays bass (upright and electric) and does all kinds of shit, from jazz to funk to rock to polka. He's actually really good. His "polka" group is named Burt Klein Jazz Vampyre and his Archestra of the Undead. Mark Powers (plays with the Wandering Sons now sometimes) plays with them. Anyways, we'll see what happens.

I think this afternoon I'm gonna look for some CD's and DVD's to check out, do some work, then go home. More to come.

Oh yeah.

Some things I forgot on the list.

1. Read. I work at a library.
2. Find a few CD's every couple of days that I might want to buy, and LISTEN to them first.
3. Buy cds.
4. Make a list of the many, many, many CD's I want to buy. (Suggestions?)
5. Redo, after reformatting my computer and losing it, my "yes I'm a huge anal retentive dork" list of all of the CD's I own. In my own defense, I have lost a lot of CD's borrowing them to people or just leaving them somewhere.

Okay, that's it. Bye.

Ode to Brian

No Brian's not dead. Being inspired by Brian, I decided I should post again, and make promises that I'm going to try really hard to post more often, and probably falter again. However, that's what I'm doing. Plus it should be easier now. I have a job, but I'm by a computer all day, and it's not like I slack off, I just get things done right away instead of taking the whole day to do them. So now, I'm sitting here with an hour and three minutes before I get off work with everything done for the day. For now. Here are some other things, besides blogging, that I know I need to do, and am earnestly working at doing.

1. Getting to Rockford to see everyone/get fitted for my tuxedo for Marcus' wedding
2. Making my coffee table*
3. Calling people. I honestly try from time to time, and make myself feel guilty about being a bad friend. I love you all.
4. Listen to The Cure. I have one CD. It's a greatest hits or something (I know, I know) and I'm trying to decide if I like them. I know I'm probably supposed to, and some parts I do. Just have to make my mind up for sure.
5. Convincing Sarah (girlfriend, not sister) that The Pogues and Morrissey are both very good. She does love the new Elliott Smith though, even knows the words.
6. Figure out if I should work slower so I have stuff to do all day, or continue getting things done quickly.
7. Hang the pictures in the bathroom that we bought this weekend.
8. Eat.
9. Smoke.

Alright, the list is over. Turns out I'm just hungry and want a cigarette. On a side note, Brian and Dan if either of you read this, you should come visit. Anyone else too, it's just they have come up before. And Texas is far from here (I don't know if Jill or Mike even read this {I don't know if anyone reads this}).

The new Morrissey record is really good. You Are The Quarry. Dean(o) Butterworth from (sometimes) Ben Harper's band plays on it. For three dollars more than the regular edition I got the special edition with bonus songs and a DVD. Pretty sweet.

I should get going. I hope someone reads this. Bye.

*I'm making my coffee table. It's not all that interesting, but some of you might wonder what I'm doing. Most of you won't. If you want to know, I'll tell you next post.
